Introduction. TMW Music School is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all students, staff, and visitors. This safeguarding policy outlines our approach to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and vulnerable adults attending lessons at our Westbury and Midsomer Norton locations.

Scope. This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, students, and parents or guardians associated with TMW Music School. It covers all in-person lessons conducted in our teaching rooms at both locations.

Safeguarding Principles

Safeguarding is the responsibility of all staff members.

Concerns regarding safeguarding will be taken seriously and responded to appropriately.

Staff and Recruitment

All teachers at TMW Music School are a minimum of 16 years of age.

All teachers undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before commencing employment.

Staff receive guidance on safeguarding procedures and best practices.

Teaching Environment

Lessons take place in designated teaching rooms at our Westbury and Midsomer Norton locations.

All teaching rooms have closed doors with a window to ensure both privacy and visibility.

Parents and guardians are welcome to wait in designated areas during lessons or within the teaching room if preferred.

Recognising and Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

Staff must be vigilant in recognising signs of abuse, neglect, or harm.

Any safeguarding concerns must be reported to the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) as soon as possible.

The DSL will assess the situation and take appropriate action in accordance with local safeguarding procedures.

Confidentiality and Record-Keeping

All safeguarding concerns will be recorded and handled sensitively, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

Records will be securely stored and only shared with relevant authorities when necessary.

Code of Conduct for Staff

Staff must always act professionally and maintain appropriate boundaries.

Physical contact with students should be avoided unless necessary for instructional purposes and only with the student’s consent.

One-to-one lessons should always be conducted within the designated teaching rooms to ensure visibility.

Engagement with Parents and Guardians

Parents and guardians are encouraged to communicate any concerns regarding their child’s wellbeing.

TMW Music School values a collaborative approach to safeguarding and will provide information on safeguarding policies upon request.

Appropriate Phone Use, Photography, and Videos

The use of mobile phones by staff should be limited to professional purposes only and must not interfere with teaching.

Students are not permitted to use mobile phones during lessons unless explicitly required for educational purposes and with teacher approval.

Photography and video recording are only permitted with prior consent from parents or guardians.

Any images or videos taken for social media or promotional purposes require a signed parental consent form before being captured or published.

Staff should ensure that all media is stored securely and used only for its intended purpose.
